Meet the team

Katrine Ellegaard

I have both a professional and personal passion for the process of learning a new language and its many relations with both culture and identity. Therefore, I love to teach Danish as a second language and support newcomers in feeling integrated into the Danish culture and society.

From my own life in a bilingual family, with my husband and kids, I know the importance of language in feeling a part of the place you live.

Besides my personal engagement in language, I have a master’s degree in Spanish language and Culture & Danish as a second language from the University of Copenhagen.

I am happy to teach Danish at Kartoffeldansk, where the small groups make it possible to focus on each student; their level, wishes and situation.

Ida Marie Heuser

I have a master’s degree in Danish language and cultural encounters from RUC. Through my education I have focused on cultural hybridity and the use of language. I have taught students at all ages about culture and language with a focus on Greenland for years, and I love meeting different people and communicating stories about culture and language.

I have a passion for understanding cultural nuances that every Danish learner brings to the classroom. I draw on cultural nuances as part of teaching the Danish language by relating the learning process to familiar concepts and understandings. I believe that the intimate setup at Kartoffeldansk allows this sort of attention to the students.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Copenhagen and a degree in Creative Writing. I'm fascinated by the nuances of language and how they shape our ability to connect with others and express ourselves.

In my own language learning adventures, I've always valued consistent input, patience, and personalized attention. I believe these factors make for a great language learning environment, and I strive to use them in every Danish lesson with you. Language learning takes time, and I will dedicate time to understanding your specific needs and learning style.

I believe that learning a language means being able to express oneself spontaneously. That's why I want to create a safe, calm, and cozy learning environment where you can practice without fear of making mistakes. Together, we'll build a space where curiosity can take place and language barriers gradually can soften.

I have always been passionate about teaching Danish to newcomers. Being able to speak Danish well is a ticket to inclusion and integration when it comes to working, studying and socializing in Denmark and generally being part of Danish society. But it is also not always easy, as our mother tongue is an important and fundamental part of our identity and how we perceive ourselves in our relationships. Therefore, I understand that learning a new language is often associated with a certain uncertainty and stress.

When I teach, I therefore strive to have a coaching approach, and it is important to me that my students feel comfortable and relaxed, which is crucial for learning.

I have worked with teaching in Danish as a second language and student counselling in various language schools and companies since 1995 and am now a part of Kartoffeldansk. I have a bachelor’s degree in Danish and a master’s degree in business coaching and I have my own company alongside my job in Kartoffeldansk where I work with career and work-life balance.

I look forward to teaching you and guiding you on your journey towards mastering Danish.

My passion is helping newcomers in Denmark to integrate into the Danish society and to ultimately feel at home, which I believe happens through learning the language and about the culture.

I started Kartoffeldansk up in 2017 as I did not feel that the settings in the public language schools were optimal for teaching. My experience is, that customized Danish classes in a comfortable and more intimate setting are a much better fit for people, who wish to learn Danish.

I have a masters degree in teaching Danish as a second language for adults from Copenhagen University as well as in history and cultural encounters from RUC.
