How do I sign up?
Send us an e-mail at adm@kartoffeldansk.dk or fill out our contact form. Give us as much info as you can about: your Danish level, what your aim & focus is, what kind of setup you're interested in (group and/or private lessons), and what time you would like to have classes. Then, we'll get back to you reg. what we can offer. You can also ask for a free start up meeting online or in-person, where you can have a chat with one of us and we can find the right setup for you. We'll get you started asap.
When can I start up my Danish classes?
As soon as we have any availabilities, you can start up. If we e.g., have an available time for private lessons or an available spot in a group that suits you level, you can start up already next week.
Can I have a trial lesson?
Yes, you can and at a good discount. Get in touch and we'll find the right class for you
Can I have classes in my home or my office? Or online?
We have a hybrid setup so you can join all classes in-person and online. If you'd like to have classes in your home or workplace, there is an extra cost for transportation.
What are the terms and conditions for Danish classes at Kartoffeldansk?
You can find them here
What is the average length of a module?
When having group classes once a week for 2 hours it takes about 5-6 months to finish a module. You can speed this up by supplementing with private lessons e.g., multiple times a week. The more intensively you study, the faster you progress.
How is Kartoffeldansk different from other schools?
Kartoffeldansk is a small private school with focus on teaching you Danish on your terms. We customize the classes to your needs with focus on what you need to improve. We especially focus on spoken Danish in class as in our experience this is the hardest to master.
Where are you located?
We are located a 5 minute walk from Nørreport Station right by the lakes. Our address is: Gothersgade 167, st. tv., 1123 Kartoffeldansk. See the map here
When is the school closed for the holidays?
We are closed between Christmas and New Years (including the 23rd of December and the 1st of January) and week 27-30 (however, we offer summer school in some of these weeks). We are also closed on public holidays such as the Easter days, pentecost and Ascension day. We offer classes the rest of the year.
How does the sign-up for group classes work?
We have a running sign up our group classes in order to get you started asap. Therefore, you do not necessarily sign up for a module at a time, but instead have the flexibility of paying for 4-40 weeks at a time. This also means that you can start in a group, that has already startet a module. If you'd e.g., like a little repetition of a module and not do it all over again, this is a good solution for you.
Will I join a new group from the beginning of a module?
We are starting up new groups regularly, however our concept is that a group that e.g., starts from module 1 will - if the students don't have breaks - continue through the whole Danish education together and with the same teacher. The group graduates from one module to another together when the teacher thinks they're ready. That also means that you may join a group of students, who have had classes together for a while. And you can also join a group that has already started a module if you'd e.g., like to have a little repetition of a module before starting on a new. We also prioritize for you to start up your Danish classes asap, so if there is an available spot in a group that suits your level, we'll offer it to you and you can start as soon as you want.
When I sign up for group classes and cannot come to class, can I save that lesson for later?
When you sign up for group classes you sign up for a fixed period. Our closing days are not counted into this period. If you are absent due to sickness, work or other obligations, you cannot save a missed class for later. You can always ask your teacher to record the lesson that you miss, so you can watch the recording later. And you're always welcome to send your homework for feedback so you won't get behind. However, if you buy a package of minimum 20 weeks you can be absent from one class without paying.
Can the class be recorded if I miss a class and would like to watch the recording later on?
Yes, please ask your teacher to record a lesson, that you will miss, and he/she will send you a link after class.
How many participants are there in a group?
There are 3-6 students in a group. If two students have classes together, it counts as semi-private classes.
Do the prices of attending group classes vary depending on sign ups?
No, the prices are the same regardless of whether you're 3 or 6 students in a group.
What if I think the level of a group is too high/low, can I change to another group?
Please, get in touch with us and we'll find another group that suits your level better. You are also always welcome to talk with your teacher.
What do I do if I need to cancel or move a class?
Please, let your teacher know well in advance (minimum 24 hours before) and he/she will try to find another time that works for you both. If your teacher cannot offer you another time, maybe one of the other teachers has an availability that works for you. You can also save a class for later if you cannot find another time the same week.
Can I have classes together with a friend or partner?
Yes, we offer semi-private lessons for 2 students and we can also make a special setup if you're more than 2. You can either pay for a package together, or we can split the cost into two invoices.
Can you facilitate group classes at my workplace?
Yes, we'd love to. Get in touch and we'll send prices and a proposal for your workplace.
Can you help me and/or my colleagues speak more Danish in the workplace?
Yes, we specify in spoken Danish and would love to help.
Can there be more in a group than 6?
Yes, when we facilitate Danish classes in your workplace we'll make a customized setup according to your needs.
How fast can I go from complete beginner to passing the PD3?
This depends on whether you'd just like to pass the PD3 or whether you'd like to master Danish at a PD3 level.
With hard studying and intensive work, you can go from a complete beginner to passing the PD3 in about 1,5 years. Maybe faster depending on your learning speed. With a normal setup and a normal progress we'd say between 2-2,5 years.
Can I take the PD2 exam at Kartoffeldansk
You need to take the exam itself at a public school, however we would love to help you prepare for it. We do not focus on the PD2 exam in the group classes, but would love to help you prepare for the exam through tailored private lessons.
Can I take the PD3 exam at Kartoffeldansk?
We would love to help you prepare for the PD3 exam at Kartoffeldansk, however the exam itself will be in a public language school such as UCplus and Studieskolen. We usually recommend that you have private lessons if you need to focus particularly on the exam in the classes. We don't focus on the exam itself before module 5 in the groups, however we do help you progress with your Danish level to help you pass the exam in module 1-4. If a whole module 5 group wishes to take the PD3 exam, we focus on it in the classes.
How do I sign up to a PD2 or PD3 3 exam when studying at Kartoffeldansk?
It is your own responsibility to sign up to the official exam at a public school of your choice such as SPEAK, UCplus and Studieskolen. You'd sign up as "selvstuderende". Beware of the deadlines that comes months before the exam itself.
